There aren't many places where you can sip a cocktail overlooking Elliott Bay while sitting inside a piece of Seattle's rock-and-roll history. The Edgewater Hotel is one of them!
Perched directly over the water on Pier 67, The Edgewater opened in 1962 for Seattle's Century 21 World's Fair, the same event that gave us the Space Needle. More than 60 years later, it remains Seattle's only over-water hotel, with views stretching across Elliott Bay toward the Olympic Mountains. But what makes The Edgewater especially fun to visit is everything that's happened inside those walls.
In 1964, The Beatles stayed at the hotel during their first world tour at the height of Beatlemania. Security was such a concern that cyclone fencing was installed around the property, while fans gathered outside hoping to catch a glimpse of the band. Some reportedly even tried swimming across Elliott Bay to reach them. That visit also gave us one of the hotel's most famous photographs: The Beatles fishing directly out of the window of their suite. And believe it or not, fishing from your hotel room wasn't just something the band decided to try. In its early years, The Edgewater actually advertised the ability to fish directly from guest room windows and even had its own bait and tackle shop.
The Beatles were only the beginning. Over the decades, The Edgewater became a favorite stop for musicians visiting Seattle, welcoming names like Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Cash, David Bowie, Black Sabbath, Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell, and Pearl Jam. Today, the hotel fully embraces that history. You can stay in The Beatles Suite, filled with memorabilia celebrating their famous 1964 visit, or book the Pearl Jam Suite, which was created with the band and features original artwork, a turntable, and even a guitar guests can play.
But you don't need to book a room to experience The Edgewater. This October might actually be one of the most fun times to stop by. From October 1st through November 1st, the hotel's lobby transforms into the Little Haunted Lobby Bar, a seasonal Halloween pop-up filled with candlelight, spooky décor, handcrafted cocktails, and fall-inspired bites.
The pop-up is open daily from 5:00 - 11:00 PM, making it an easy addition to a fall date night or evening downtown. Grab a cocktail, take in the waterfront views, and enjoy the slightly spooky atmosphere inside a hotel that already has more than six decades of stories behind it. That's what makes The Edgewater such a fun Seattle experience. You come for the incredible location, but then discover all these layers of music, history, architecture, and local culture along the way. And this time of year, you can add a little Halloween spirit to the list!
