Bumbershoot 2026: Seattle’s Iconic Arts & Music Festival Returns Labor Day Weekend

Seattle knows how to close out summer, and few events capture the city’s creative spirit quite like Bumbershoot. The iconic arts and music festival returns to Seattle Center on September 5–6, 2026, bringing two full days of live music, visual art, food, comedy, fashion, film and plenty of the wonderfully unexpected to Labor Day weekend.

For more than five decades, Bumbershoot has been a Seattle tradition. Now in its 53rd year, the festival continues to take over the Seattle Center campus beneath the Space Needle, celebrating both internationally recognized performers and the creative community of the Pacific Northwest.

Saturday, September 5 is headlined by Turnstile, with performances from Japanese Breakfast, Blood Orange, Chase & Status, Bikini Kill, Molchat Doma, Joey Valence & Brae, Peaches, Die Spitz, Silvana Estrada, Travis Thompson, Oblé Reed and more.

Then on Sunday, September 6, Death Cab for Cutie takes the headlining spot alongside Orville Peck, De La Soul, Yves Tumor, ATARASHII GAKKO!, Sudan Archives, TOKiMONSTA, Goldie Boutilier, Noname, PawPaw Rod and others.

There’s something particularly fitting about seeing Death Cab for Cutie headline Bumbershoot. While the band is closely associated with Seattle and has deep roots in the city, Death Cab for Cutie actually formed just north of Seattle in Bellingham, Washington, in 1997, while frontman Ben Gibbard was attending Western Washington University. Over nearly three decades, the group has grown from a Pacific Northwest indie act into one of the defining indie-rock bands of its generation. So while it’s common to hear Death Cab described as a “Seattle band,” Pacific Northwest hometown heroes is probably the more accurate description, and their return to headline one of Seattle’s most recognizable festivals feels especially appropriate. Their Bumbershoot appearance also comes during a new chapter for the band. Death Cab is touring behind its 11th studio album, I Built You A Tower, released in June 2026, marking a return to the band’s independent-label roots. They’re scheduled to perform at Bumbershoot on Sunday, September 6.

One of the things that makes Bumbershoot different from a typical music festival is everything happening away from the main stages. The 2026 festival is leaning heavily into Seattle’s arts scene, with programming spread across multiple creative districts. Bumbershoot is promoting an eclectic mix that includes fashion designers, short films, comedians, restaurants, skateboarders, wrestling and BMX, along with visual and performance art. In other words, you don’t necessarily need to recognize every name on the music lineup to have a reason to go. Part of the fun of Bumbershoot has always been wandering around Seattle Center and discovering something you weren't expecting.

With Bumbershoot happening right in the heart of Seattle Center, it’s also an easy excuse to spend the day exploring the surrounding Uptown neighborhood. Grab brunch before heading in, explore the festival throughout the afternoon and evening, or turn it into a full Labor Day weekend in the city. The festival is all ages, and children 12 and under can attend free with a ticketed adult. General admission and upgraded ticket options are available through Bumbershoot.
